kenya: nairobi national park

last monday was our 1st year anniversary...we had initially planned to go camping, but we had a bethel lecture for new bethelites that we were not able to miss, so we changed our plan to just take the day off and go to nairobi national park, then the following weekend go ahead wiht our camping plan. so this blog is about our park trip, then next blog about our peaceful weekend camping...

we started off really early - left bethel at 6am so that we would see the sunrise, miss the traffic, and see the animals early in the morning while they are still active. our timing was good...as we entered the park, this is what we were greeted with...

we quickly drove up to the lookout point and had our breakfast looking out over the athi plains as the sun rose.

we had a pleasant and peaceful day - saw giraffe, lots of buffalo, zebra, hartebeast, wildebeast, grants gazelle, the largest tribe of baboon i have ever seen and a couple of eland (largest of the antelopes) and lots of different birds.

this buffalo was stood by the road and gave us a scare when he raised his head and stopped chewing, threatening to charge...this was the last pic before we escaped in a cloud of dust.

these hartebeast were intent on displaying their rear ends to us...

and the highlight of the day was the zebra, especially the newborn...
