sudan: pre-pre-wedding party

The highlight of the week is a wedding! to be more precise, a pre-wedding party. actually, a pre-pre-wedding party. the tradition here is that the brides side of the family throw a party for all their friends and relatives, then the grooms do likewise for theirs, then, the actual wedding when it comes, has no reception - just maybe some sweets given out. all people here do it like this. so the pre-wedding parties are pretty wedding-reception-like. Held in a huge rented and decorated hall with more than 400 people, and im told this is an average sized one.

The women AND the men dye their hands with henna...as you can see the womens is rather more attractive. the artistry is freestyle - out of the henna dye-persons imagination.

sudanese music is actually very danceable and everybody gets to dance with the bride and groom - even rhythm-challenged individuals such as myself. the pic shows the groom being lifted up in the air...afterward they did the same to the bride.
