zambia: the mighty luangwa river

so we turned back with our hearts and lives just that bit more enriched for having seen and experienced the falls and started to retrace our steps back home. but this time, our plan was to take a bit more time and enjoy the trip a bit more.

our first stop was back to lusaka, but this time we stayed at the bethel. zambia bethel is so big and has so much space that they have a herd of zebra on the property. it was a nice opportunity to clean up and check up on the car. we also met good friends abel and portia - abel's parents have been serving in kenya bethel for aeons so we know them well.

our next stop was the luangwa river bridge campsite. its only 230km from lusaka, so we took our time and enjoyed the trip.

the luangwa river is one of the major tributaries that flows into the zambezi. across the river is mozambique. the campsite was really the only option between lusaka and the malawi border, and it was quite pleasant.

as we had a beer and enjoyed the sun setting across the river, this couple showed up. a german guy married to a french lady, and they keep their old bmw (same year as our suzuki!) in africa and just fly in every winter and do another stage of their trip. sandi invited them for supper and they kept us entertained.

my favorite quote from him: "travelling is like a drug. once you start, you can't stop."
