canada: madawaska river
we had such an awesome time at the family reunion but i have decided not to do a blog on our family reunion mainly because...i took so many pics and i love them all and i would post them all and...well, i wouldn't want to force those of you who are not family to look through hundreds of pics of people you may not know. so i will make the torture optional:) click here to see them all.
BUT back to the story: our family reunion was held at peter's cottage (peter is our grandpa - this may only make sense to those of us in africa, but for the rest of y'all he is my uncles father-in-law). His place is set in totally idyllic surroundings on the madawaska river and i have to give him advance warning that in the new system i plan to be his neighbour (at least when i live in north america - i have other plans for while i am living in africa)
for the 2 weeks we stayed there i kept on thinking - this is what paradise will be like. perfectly quiet, beautiful river, work out in the fresh air every day, cold beer and a jump in the river when its too hot....perfect!
our neighbours provided lots of entertainment...
one afternoon i goofed around with the texture and colors of the canoes...
down this way is the bridge which the braver ones jumped off, and the rest of us wusses just tubed down from
real early in the morning - it always blows me away - doesnt matter how many times you go to a place, you can keep on coming back at different times and different seasons and it looks completely different. jehovah's creation is dynamically beautiful, unlike anything us humans create!
and this is looking the other way (downstream) where there is an island that you can canoe to, although this time we didn't do it.
a special thanks to peter for letting us stay in this unspoiled paradise. of course we may have reduced the peace somewhat for a week or so :)
i have experimented with this shot...i am not quite sure which version i like but i am leaning towards this black and white one.
all in all, there are really no words to describe how much fun it was. what a perfect setting to meet up with everyone, most of whom we hadn't seen in 5 years and spend a week together renewing old friendships and catching up. to say nothing of the table tennis competition.
2015 here we come!!!
