kenya: camping in gilgil
sorry i am a bit behind in my updates - the week after the convention, we went on this camping trip and its only now i am getting around to posting. after the hecticness (is that a word? hectivity? hection? anyway, you get the picture, it was busy) of the convention, it was really nice to relax and do nothing.
we had heard of a new campsite on the malewa river in gilgil, and we were eager to try it out. also, via email, we had met a family from alaska and agreed to go camping together (a bit risky since we hadnt actually met in person! the organisation is truly amazing. they turned out to be real nice and are now lifelong friends...thanks again guys)
so here we are, off to malewa - our usual stop for breakfast on the escarpment...our little car has camping gear and food for 6 people!
pretty masai blankets for sale
our campsite was really pretty and quiet - we were the only ones in the place even though it was a holiday weekend. the river runs right next to the camp.
other smaller beautiful creatures
the first morning i woke up really early and there was the most beautiful sunrise, but unfortunately i was unprepared location-wise, so by the time i got a nice place the sunrise was over. so you dont get to see that one. the next day i had hiked all over the place, taken test photos to try out the composition and was in position before sunrise...unfortunately it wasnt as beautiful as the previous day...but it wasnt bad either, so you get to see it...
and a panorama...
wow - what a wonderfully peaceful and enjoyable camping trip. definitely going back to that campsite. the last day we tore ourselves away to head on to.....HELLS gate national park - too bad you have to wait for my next post for that one:)
