kenya: kisumu city

the past 2 or so weeks sandi and i were in kisumu city, which is kenyas third largest city, on the shores of lake victoria. it is close to where obama's fathers traditional home is. we have a translation office here and they just moved into a larger building to accomodate the expansion of the team.
life in kisumu moves along at a peaceful pace, with little of the hustle and bustle of big cities. one striking feature of kisumu is the bicycle culture. they are known as bodaboda and serve as taxis and pick up trucks. driving through kisumu roads involves dodging bicyles, 3-wheeled motorised 'tuktuks', matatus and pedestrians. yet, it somehow all works and we never saw an accident or even a traffic jam!

we enjoyed attending the meeting and helping the one deaf brother there. he took us to one of his studies that he has with 9, yes, 9 other deaf guys who ALL attend the meeting. they were full of excellent questions and we really enjoyed our stay with them.

kisumu is blessed with the most sublime sunsets. every day, like clock work, there will be a beautiful sunset. you dont even have to be a good photographer, just point the camera at the orange flaming ball and you have some incredible shots. i apologise if i got carried away here...

needless to say we fully enjoyed our stay. hope you enjoyed the sunsets as much as we did!
