Kenya: Naivasha Macedonia

Last weekend we went on our congregation Macedonia campaign. by sheer coincidence, bethel assigned us to naivasha, which is our usual camping destination....so we decided to go for the weekend and camp overnight. apart from us we also a had a baptized deaf couple with us and ken and rose, a couple in sign language cong with us.

Usually we only see the campsite part of naivasha - this time we had a rather more diverse view of the small town of naivasha. on arrival at 9.30am on saturday (its about a 1 1/2 hour drive from nairobi) we met the brother who had arranged for us to get into the largest flower farm. this farm has 8,000 employees, including many deaf. so we immeadiately drive to this farm and started out....

here we are after the morning ready to go to the meeting. the guy with the toothpick and the guy in a cap are deaf studies. oh and the lady with the blue african style dress.

had a great time and met lots of deaf. then at 2ish we rush out to go for the meeting at 3pm - the congregation there meet in a small (and dark) school...

i was thrown in the deep end - interpreting my first talk from swahili into sign language and it was talk 1 from the si book (sign lang congs dont use the si book!) and i had no idea what the brother was talking about. so i made up my own talk:)

saturday evening we were invited to the home of a regular pioneer couple - she conducts 7 deaf AND 7 hearing studies and we had a great time. alfred (deaf brother we travelled with) completely entertained us. he has a very outgoing personality and when he tells a story it is so lively that even if you dont know sign language you know what he is talking about.

back to camp almost at 10 to find some indian family were setting off fireworks 'just for the fun of it'. they were really stunning - my picture isnt really that great but it gives you the general idea i think?

sunday morning: after a great breakfast whipped up by the girls, we make it to the group only slightly late :) and off to the farm again. not so easy on sunday to find people at home, but we did have a few nice calls and a generally great time, also a lot of walking...

so back to the meeting for the public talk and watchtower (seems they missed the letter saying it should be 30min talk - it was 50 minutes!!). a couple of doors down there was another group meeting and speaking in tongues, so we had this as background noise, for the entire 2 hrs! then fond goodbyes to all our new friends and then we had a peaceful trip back home, tired but happy.

these were some kids at the kh...i just like this photo...
